I am Doug (Deke), and I grew up in Diablo Valley, east of San Francisco. My wife Erin grew up in Chatham, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
We live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and raised our children in Alameda. In 2003, we sold our house in Alameda and moved onto our boat in the estuary between Alameda and Oakland. The name of the trawler is the Jessie-James, after our two children. We lived aboard for five years and owned the boat for eleven.
My wife, Erin, and I camped in all 48 States of the US in 2005. We are avid campers, and we do it minimally. We toured the USA in a Volkswagen Westfalia.
Erin is an avid artist and a lover of anything coastal, and takes walks whenever she can.
I am now in my 70s, and don't camp as much as I used to. I go fishing with my best friend of 70 years almost every week, and twice a year for an entire week. I love to write, and am getting back at it lately. Both Erin and I are big-time readers and have been most of our lives. We both love good movies, and I enjoy cooking. We both retired during the COVID-19 days of 2020.
We have two married children, Jessica and James, who are in their 40s. We have two granddaughters, two and five. Erin goes to the North Bay to help Jessica and Oliver with Aurelia and Winifred 2 days a week. James and his wife, Jenny, live in Long Island, New York.
We might be old, but we have lived adventurous lives and would love to share the highlights with you.
